Personality Type “C”

HAPPY-PEOPLE-iStockAs I shared in the first three blogs, I’ve recently taken a Personality Profile test for ARC (Association of Related Churches), which is a step in the process of planting our church in Columbia, Missouri. I’ve come across some interesting things about the four personality types and the effectiveness and weaknesses of each one. As a church planter, placing volunteers on ministry teams is a huge goal and challenge! Placing the right person in the right area can cause that particular area/team to excel. However placing the wrong personality type in an area of ministry not fit for them can be a detriment to the team, people being served, and the overall ministry.

This is Blog #4  about the four personality types and the pros & cons of each. Also, we will share the areas in each personality category that typically needs growth, correction, and help. Realize that each personality type possesses both great strengths and weaknesses. Our personality type can be very beneficial and yet offensive/drag if not tempered overall by the Spirit of God.

This is from the Personality Profile I recently have taken. These are not my thoughts or opinions. I have highlighted key words that stood out to me though.

Personality Type “C” – Compliant, Competent, Task oriented, Goal oriented, Introverted

“C”s are complicated and analytical. Careful and logical lines of thinking drive them forward, and accuracy is a top priority. They hold high standards and valued systematic approaches to problem solving. Though they thrive when given opportunities to find solutions, they tend to ignore the feelings of others and can often be critical and downright crabby.  Verbalizing feelings is difficult for them, but when they are not bogged down in details and have clear-cut boundaries, they can be big assets to the team by providing calculated “reality checks”. The “C”s biggest fear is criticism, and their need for perfectionism is often a weakness, as is their tendency to give in when in the midst of an argument. However, they are thorough in all activities and can bring a conscientious, even-tempered element to the team that will provide solid grounding. They value being correct the most.

AREAS TO GROW, IMPROVE, & CORRECT

A. Concentrate on doing the right things—not just doing things right
B. Be less critical of other’s ideas and methods
C. Respond more quickly to accomplish others’ goals
D. Strive to build relationships with other people and family members
E. Be more decisive
F. Focus less on facts and more on people

Personality Type “S”

HAPPY-PEOPLE-iStockAs I shared in the first two blogs, I’ve recently taken a Personality Profile test for ARC (Association of Related Churches), which is a step in the process of planting our church in Columbia, Missouri. This is from the Personality Profile I recently have taken. These are not my thoughts or opinions. I have highlighted key words that stood out to me though.

Personality Type “S” – Steady, Sure, Analytical, People Oriented, Introverted

“S”s are steady and more reserved. Because they are stable and predictable, they do not like change, and they thrive in secure, non-threatening environments. They are often friendly and understanding as well as good listeners and loyal workers and who are happy doing the same job consistently. With an incredible ability to forgive, reliable and dependable “S”s tend to make the best friends. Their greatest fear, however, is loss of security, and their possible weaknesses, naturally include not only resistance to change, but also difficulty adjusting to it. They can also be too sensitive to criticism and unable to establish priorities. In order to avoid being taken advantage of, “S”s need to be stronger an learn how to say “no”. They also, like to avoid the limelight, but when given an opportunity to genuinely help others, they will gladly rise to the occasion.  They feel most valued when they have truly helped someone.

AREAS TO GROW, IMPROVE, & CORRECT

A. Consider how change is healthy. Try to change more willingly
B. Be more direct in your interactions
C. Focus on overall goals of your family or group rather than specific procedures
D. Deal with confrontation constructively
E. Develop more flexibility
F. Try to show more initiative

Personality Type “I”

HAPPY-PEOPLE-iStockAs I shared in the first blog, I’ve recently taken a Personality Profile test for ARC (Association of Related Churches), which is a step in the process of planting our church in Columbia, Missouri. This is from the Personality Profile I recently have taken. These are not my thoughts or opinions. I have highlighted key words that stood out to me though.

Personality Type “I” – Influential, Interested in people, Witty, Easygoing, Outgoing, People oriented

“I”s are inspiring and impressive. Enthusiastic, optimistic, impulsive, and emotional– they tend to be creative problem solvers and excellent encouragers. They often have a large number of friends, but they can become more concerned with approval and popularity than with getting results. An “I’”s greatest fear is rejection, but they thrive when it comes to motivating others. Their positive sense of humor helps them negotiate conflicts. Though they can be inattentive to details and poor listeners, they can be great peacemakers and effective teammates when they control their feelings and minimize their urge to entertain and be the center of attention. They value lot of human touch and connection.

AREAS TO GROW, IMPROVE, & CORRECT

A. Weigh the pros and cons before making a decision; be less impulsive
B. Remember to help with tasks more
C. Exercise control over your actions, words, and emotions
D. Focus more on details and facts
E. Remember to slow down your pace for other people
F. Talk less; listen more

Personality Type “D”

HAPPY-PEOPLE-iStockI’ve recently taken a Personality Profile test for ARC (Association of Related Churches), which is a step in the process of planting our church in Columbia, Missouri. I’ve come across some interesting things about the four personality types and the effectiveness and weaknesses of each one. I will be writing four blogs about the four personality types and the pros & cons of each.

Personality Type “D” – Dominant, Direct, Task Oriented, Decisive, Outspoken
“D”s are direct and decisive; they are risk takers and problem solvers. They are more concerned with completing tasks and winning than they are with gaining approval from people. Though the internal drive tends to make them insensitive to those around them, “D”s are not afraid to challenge the status quo, and they thrive when it comes to developing new things. They need discipline to excel, and they respond to direct confrontation. The greatest fear of a “D” is to be taken advantage of, and even despite their possible weaknesses—which include an aversion to routine, a tendency to overstep authority, and argumentative nature, and a habit of taking on too much—they place a high value on time and use their innovative thinking to accomplish difficult tasks and conquer challenges.

AREAS TO GROW, IMPROVE, & CORRECT

A. Strive to listen to other people more attentively
B. Try to be less controlling and domineering
C. Develop a greater appreciation for the opinions, feelings, and desires of others
D. Put more energy into personal relationships
E. Show your support for the other team members
F. Make sure you stay in your lane and don’t overstep
G. Be sure to not over-talk others or dominate the conversation
H. Be careful that you don’t come across as a rude & brash person
I. Be sure to not get involved in business and conversations that don’t pertain to you
J. Don’t come across offensive just because you are “right” in a situation

We believe in the “Church”At Destiny Pointe Church we believe that the church is the greatest force upon the face of the earth. We believe that the church is not buildings but believers. Why Destiny Point Church? Part 1

blackwhitedpalternatelogoWhy Destiny Pointe Church? Actually, why another church? Aren’t there churches on every corner already?

Based on research (I Am a Church Member, Thomas Rainer) from 2004 to 2010 showed that nine out of ten churches in America are declining or growing at a pace that is slower than that of their communities. Simply stated, churches are losing ground in their own backyards.

Another way of looking at it is generationally. About two-thirds of the Builder Generation, those born before 1946, are Christians. But only 15 percent of the Millennials are Christians. The Millennials are the largest generation in America’s history with almost eighty million members. They were born between 1980 and 2000. Predictions show that the next gen born after 2000 will have only 4 percent that will be Christian (true disciples of Christ).

Let me give some good news now! Nearly 80 percent of those giving their lives to Christ in America are doing so in new church plants or new multi-site campuses. This fans the flame in my heart and stirs my passion to plant a life giving church in Columbia, Missouri. We have great churches in our city now, but statistics have recently shown that Columbia has nearly 109,000 residents and of those only 10,000 are connected to a church. In our city nearly 100,000 people are “unchurched”.

We have much work to do! We realize that “going to church” doesn’t save us, Jesus saves us! However Jesus established the church, is married to the church, died for the church, is the Head of the church, and is coming again for His church! We desire to join the great churches in Columbia and reach our city with the Good News of Jesus Christ!

“Destiny Pointe Church exists to Awaken, Equip, and Connect people to God’s purpose!”
