Why Destiny Point Church? Part 1

blackwhitedpalternatelogoWhy Destiny Pointe Church? Actually, why another church? Aren’t there churches on every corner already?

Based on research (I Am a Church Member, Thomas Rainer) from 2004 to 2010 showed that nine out of ten churches in America are declining or growing at a pace that is slower than that of their communities. Simply stated, churches are losing ground in their own backyards.

Another way of looking at it is generationally. About two-thirds of the Builder Generation, those born before 1946, are Christians. But only 15 percent of the Millennials are Christians. The Millennials are the largest generation in America’s history with almost eighty million members. They were born between 1980 and 2000. Predictions show that the next gen born after 2000 will have only 4 percent that will be Christian (true disciples of Christ).

Let me give some good news now! Nearly 80 percent of those giving their lives to Christ in America are doing so in new church plants or new multi-site campuses. This fans the flame in my heart and stirs my passion to plant a life giving church in Columbia, Missouri. We have great churches in our city now, but statistics have recently shown that Columbia has nearly 109,000 residents and of those only 10,000 are connected to a church. In our city nearly 100,000 people are “unchurched”.

We have much work to do! We realize that “going to church” doesn’t save us, Jesus saves us! However Jesus established the church, is married to the church, died for the church, is the Head of the church, and is coming again for His church! We desire to join the great churches in Columbia and reach our city with the Good News of Jesus Christ!

“Destiny Pointe Church exists to Awaken, Equip, and Connect people to God’s purpose!”
